Hello, I’m Suvin Nimnaka
Suvin Nimnaka is an Information Systems undergraduate at the University of Colombo School of Computing, Sri Lanka. He describes himself as organized and result-oriented with a particular interest in Information Technology and Space Sciences. He is the president at SEDS University of Colombo (Students for the Space Exploration and Development of Space) while also being the Chairperson of the ACM Student Chapter of UCSC. Suvin is also a member of the Google Developer Community, Colombo Flutter Community, ACM SIGCHI Colombo, etcetera. He is interested in Web and Mobile Applications Development, DevOps, Cloud Architecture, and Cube Satellite technology. He does research on Human-Computer Interaction(HCI). In addition, he loves volunteering and helping other people through technology.
I was an active member of Richmond IT Society and have contributed to many activities in IT field as well as towards betterment of IT education in the school
I am senior member of Richmond Live, the live broadcasting team of Richmond College. Our main target is to live broadcast the annual cricket encounter of our school. I started as a video mixing team member and worked my way up to the technical team. Now working as an old boy.
RichMUN is the annual Model United Nations conference of Richmond College. I was an Under Secretary General and worked with technical side that included Mobile app, website, Reservation system as well as live video wall.
Joined AIESEC, an international youth-run, non-governmental and Not-for-profit that provides young people with leadership development. Worked as Organizing Committee Vice President (OCVP) – Marketing for EXCELLENTIA 2020 (The annual awards ceremony of AIESEC in University of Colombo) and currently working as OCVP – Marketing in Paw Prints 7.0 project.
Joined ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), Student Chapter of UCSC, and served as a member since 2019. Subsequently elected as the Vice Chairperson in 2020 and as Chairperson in 2021. My main role at the ACM SC was to contribute to the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) while assisting and mentoring school children to code and organize the program in collaboration with the University and Ministry of Education towards conducting a successful program.
Joined Mozilla Student Club and organized Hacktoberfest 2019 celebrations happened at UCSC Premises.
Started Iconicto in 2012 and came officially into business in 2017. Have a descent amount of clients both local and foreign.
Campus Experts are student leaders that strive to build diverse and inclusive spaces to learn skills, share their experiences, and build projects together. I became the 6th Campus Expert in Sri Lanka in February 2021.
Joined NASA Space Apps in 2020 as a organizing committee member where I worked in maintaining the web services and video production. Then I was appointed as the co-host of NASA Space Apps 2021.
The Twilio Champions program is a global network of expert developers who actively support developer communities. I became the first Sri Lankan to get accepted into the program and I’m the current organizer of Twilio Colombo Local Chapter.
Was a research member of SEDS (Students for the Exploration and Development of Space) since 2019 and subsequently elected as the President in 2020. My main research interests at SEDS UOC was Cube Satellite technology, High Altitude Ballooning and Submersible Vehicles. My passion lead me to directly collaborate with NASA, ESA, and Orion Space to improve Cube Satellite Technologies.
The Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) is a programming competition for delegations within the South Asian / Western Pacific region. I was a co-leader of the Sri Lankan Team. My main role being a co-leader was to mentor and prepare the students to compete in the competition and as well as represent Sri Lanka at the competition taking the responsibility of the students.
The International Olympiad in Informatics is one of several international science Olympiads held annually around the world. I was an adjunct proctor at IOI 2020 and then got selected as the deputy team leader for Sri Lanka team in 2021. I will be taking the responsibility of mentoring the Sri Lankan team for the International Olympiad and coordinate with the host on scientific and logistics matters.
ACM SIGCHI is the leading international community of professionals interested in research, education and the practical application of Human-Computer Interaction. I am a member of this esteemed organization in Sri Lanka.
The Postman Student Leader program allows students to take the next step after earning their Postman Student Expert badge. It further empowers them to become a leader on their campus promoting API literacy amongst their peers. I am the first Postman Student Leader at University of Colombo.
Had my school education at Richmond College, Galle Sri Lanka. Passed General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level and Advanced level with distinctions. Got University admission from GCE A/L Examination in 2017.
